What material are handbells made off?

Handbells are made of bronze alloy. Like their big brothers the curch bells, handbells are also cast. Then follow several processing steps until the cast bell blank becomes the finished, tuned handbell.

Not every blank makes it to a finished handbell. It can happen that a blank cannot be tuned as desired after processing. Then there is nothing left but to melt it down again.
